All ACLED-wide coding rules are on the Coding and Sourcing Guides, there you will find everything you need to know around the coding process.
As the Coding and Sourcing Guides were created as a separate site, the headers are not listed in the sidebar, and you won't find any coding-related content when using the search tool on this site. Navigate to the Coding and Sourcing Guides first if you are searching for coding-related content.
Rules and processes that are desk-related are not yet covered here, you can find an overview of the regional guides in the country tabs of the Researcher link list.
ACLED Net is a controlled document. Whilst the pages may be printed, the electronic version posted on ACLED Net is the controlled copy. To make sure you always access the most updated version this page should not be saved onto local or network drives but should always be accessed from the website.

At ACLED we pause data publication several times a year, to account for periods of time in which a large number of people are expected to take vacation. Latest calendars and dates, omce finalized, will be added below. For further information on ACLED's Data Pauses expand the section below.
At ACLED we pause data publication occasionally, to account for periods of time in which a large number of people are expected to take vacation. Typically, there is a data pause in December. These data publication pauses, or “hiatuses” are meant to give more flexibility for people to take time off or adjust their schedules, or to give room to tackle large projects such as specific cleaning projects. Given the reactive nature of these hiatus periods, in addition to the growing number of clients using our data in real-time, the dates and exact nature of these “Open Office” hiatus periods is subject to change, and may be different year to year. As a result, there should be no expectation that such hiatuses will occur annually during the same period. The dates will be published here and on the #general Slack channel.
What if I want to take time-off during the data publication pause?
If you would like to take time-off during this period that requires another Researcher to cover part or all of your assignment, you should make an official time-off request through Bamboo. Alternatively, you can also agree with your RM to submit your assignment a bit later than usual within the hiatus period.
For Researchers who submit real-time data, your last normal submission before the data pause will be on 20/21 December, covering events from 13-19 December. You are not expected to submit data for the following week (27/28 December), but you may do so if you’d prefer to keep the same schedule as normal. On 3/4 January, all data covering 20 December 2025 to 2 January 2026 needs to be submitted. If you are normally requested to submit summaries of the data for the Regional Overview, please do so for the weeks being submitted.
Coding submission schedule:
20/21 Dec: Last regular submission before pause, covering 13-19 Dec
27/28 Dec: No submissions expected (voluntary data submissions allowed)
3/4 Jan: Deadline to submit data and the RO country summaries covering 20 Dec to 2 Jan
5/6 Jan: Review and publication of hiatus data (covering 13 Dec to 2 Jan)
