Similar to the Researcher role, the tasks of the Senior Research Assistants (SRA) consist mainly of souring and coding, however, in addition to that, the SRA will be assigned some more senior tasks to help the RM and ARM. Those might include, but not limited to, helping with desk-level data review (following data review training), higher-level desk-specific quality assurance work (e.g. location cleaning, tagging, actor cleanup, etc.), analysis writing, or translation work.
The SRA position is therefore suitable for experienced Researchers who have a very good understanding of ACLED methodology, and strong coding skills. They further need to have excellent communication skills, a proven track record of completing tasks in a timely manner, and manage their workload in a responsible way and ask for help when necessary.
The SRA position is not advertised internally or externally, and this change is based on quality of work and needs of the desk. However, if you are interested in the SRA role you can let your RM know so they can support your professional development in case this meets the needs and direction of the organization.
ACLED has an open call for the Assistant Research Manager (ARM) positions. As ACLED is a fast-paced environment, we sometimes need to move quickly when it comes to recruitment. Having a pool of applicants for the Assistant Research Manager (ARM) position will allow us to have a better overview of who is interested in such management positions, as well as a better idea of their qualifications.
